Canceling Payment Processing

Issue:

Payment processing accounts involve agreements with several entities and each must be terminated individually.  To completely cancel payment processing, the merchant must cancel with SAGE, Merchant Focus, Visa/MC, Authorize.net, American Express (if applicable) and Discover (if applicable).

Merchant focus will handle cancelling the Visa/MC and Discover merchant accounts, but American Express must be handled seperately.  You may not want to cancel Discover and Amercian Express if planning on transferring to another processor.

We recommend (and it may be required) that you submit your requests in writing then follow-up with a phone call to confirm cancellation.

If you are switching from Merchant Focus to Stripe.  Skip step 1.  Step 4 is optional depending on your circumstances as Stripe will not require any existing AMEX account.

Solution:

Step 1: If cancelling completely, contact SAGE

  - Call your Account Rep at 1-800-925-7243.
 
  - SAGE will terminate your Virtual Terminal
 
  - Although not required, we also recommend you fax a copy of the Termination form (see Step 2) to us at 1-214-631-2323 to the attention of your Account Rep. 



Step 2: Notify Merchant Focus in writing

  - You may contact Merchant Focus for a termination form at 888-888-4009 ext. 3

  - Or download this form and send to Merchant focus to cancel your account with them, Visa/MC, as well as Discover.  Merchant Focus requires 60 days notice to avoid a cancellation fee.


Step 3: Terminate your Authorize.Net account. 

  - You may call Authorize.Net  to close your account at 1-877-447-3938 or submit an eTicket online.  See this link for more information https://support.authorize.net/s/article/How-Do-I-Close-My-Authorize-Net-Account.

Step 4: Notify American Express (if applicable)

  - Contact American Express merchant services at 1-800-528-5200.

  - American Express will send you necessary paperwork.

More Information:

American Express is a wholly owned and operated by AMEX, you must contact them directly to cancel your account with them.

Merchant Focus will cancel Discover accounts given the form in Step 2 above.
