In September 2009 we announced our new relationship with Merchant Focus to replace First Data as our processing partner for SAGE Payment Processing. As of August 1, 2012, we will stop processing First Data accounts through the SAGE Payment Processing virtual terminal. See a list of Frequently asked questions below for customers that do not transition to Merchant Focus.
Q: What happens after August 1, 2012?
A: You will no longer be able to process transactions in the Virtual Terminal on www.sagemember.com.
Q: Does First Data provide their own site to process cards?
A: Yes. You may start using the First Data Global Gateway Virtual terminal at https://secure.linkpt.net/lpc/servlet/LPCLogin. Contact First Data at 888.477.3611 for more information or see Obtaining First Data Global Gateway Login Information.
Q: Why should I switch to Merchant Focus?
A: First, to save money. Although our First Data rates were competitive, First Data charges higher rates for cards the do not qualify for the "qualified rate" (usually cards that are part of a rewards programs and business cards). And even better, if you are processing more than $250,000 per year in MC/Visa transactions, you will qualify for special interchange-plus pricing with Merchant Focus. Second, great customer service, clear easy-to-read monthly statements, and continued support of the SAGE Virtual Terminal (through SAGEmember.com) and API that you currently use.
Q: Where can I find out more information about Merchant Focus and rates?

To find out more about switching to Merchant Focus, please call your account representative at 800.925.7243 or call Merchant Focus directly at 800.895.4085. If you call Merchant Focus directly, please be sure to tell them that you are a SAGE customer so that you are identified with our special program.
Q: If I switch to Merchant Focus do I need to cancel my First Data separately?
A: Yes. After you are approved for the Merchant Focus account and you receive the Welcome Email from SAGE you need to cancel your account. We are unable to cancel the account for you.
Q: Are there any termination fees when canceling First Data?
A: Some customers have been told by First Data that they would experience a termination fee by canceling their First Data account. Most customers on our previous First Data program had a one-year contract, during which a termination fee would apply (but note that we stopped accepting applications several years ago). If you are told that there will be a termination fee, we recommend that you ask to speak to a supervisor at First Data and explain that no termination fee should apply (and ask to see the agreement if they say otherwise). Note that Merchant Focus has no long-term contracts or termination fees!
